MY STORY
“I was an entrepreneur from 1978 to 2005. I would not have traded those years for anything. But I know what it is like to lose a major deal. I understand the pressure of meeting payroll when the money isn’t there. I too have had a banker unexpectedly pull his support, and I have felt the heartache of seeing a business venture fail. I wish, looking back at those times, that I had had the support of some seasoned individuals who had been through what I was going through, and who could have advised me how to avoid the pitfalls.
But I also I learned, through my successes, the satisfaction of building three different companies. Along the way, I experienced the gratification of creating jobs and providing great customers solutions. I learned that there is nothing more satisfying than seeing a vision and bringing it to life. I learned to celebrate the highs and learn from the lows and to stay the course through both. And perhaps most importantly, over time I became aware of how much there was to learn.
If I had known when I was running businesses what my members have learned over the last 12 years, my career would have been vastly different.
My role as Chair involves support and accountability. Having lived in their shoes, I am there to support each of my members as they deal with the challenges and opportunities involved in moving their businesses forward. And I’m there on an ongoing basis to challenge and encourage them to become more effective leaders living more fulfilling lives.”
